Trying To Look Ahead

Weight: 190.4 lbs.

Woo Hoo - I managed to squeak down a few ounces! More importantly, and I almost don’t want to say this out loud, I am back to trying. A little more than before, anyway. Like last night I talked hard with myself, limited my dinner intake, and allowed no evening “snack.” I only ate a grilled cheese sandwich that consisted of 2 slices of cheese on high fiber/low cal/high protein bread. And some no-sugar added applesauce. It amazes me how many bread choices there are out there now, and it isn’t so hard to allow some bread into one’s diet, even if limiting carbs and calories.

Anyway, earlier in the day I had my usual eggy breakfast, and lunch snacks at work…consisting of nuts, a pear (thank you Corky for the donation from your pear laden tree!!), and a yogurt.

No veggies I see in writing this, but less food and less junky than some other days and choices. I am trying, at least. Today I will emphasize more veggies, and we do have many steam-in-the-bag varieties I will be sure to add to dinner.

In other ways, I am also trying to focus on future, rather than dwelling on either past, or the somber realities that our Buffalo summer is winding down.

This Friday evening is a wonderful event put on by my agency, in which disabled artists show off and sell their wares in a formal auction enviroment, and there is unlimited wine and catered food that is all top notch. Although I will have to watch that I don’t over indulge. I do mostly look forward to the cameraderie, as most of my immediate colleagues attend, and this year, so are 4 of our friends. There is also an amazing band comprised of all disabled players, and I am eager to enjoy the entertainment too.

Then, on Saturday and Sunday, it is our annual metal detecting hunt. Although Tom and I didn’t formally sign-up and therefore will have to pay more to join in at the last minute, this remains an option we are considering. It is always a wonderful event that attracts detectionists from all over, as there is the opportunity to find and win many things. It is also a fun time to schmooze with like minded individuals, and the friends that we have made in the club that we belong to. And, to get some exercise and enjoy the remaining days of hopefully decent weather.

We are also waiting on Barb to let us know if she can procure additional sites for detecting, hopefully before the good weather is over! As we  only have a few weekends left to add anything new in, I hope that we can get a plan up and running soon. We have run out of good ideas for where to detect, so now must rely on the help and word of others to locate new opportunities to still enjoy this hobby.

Lastly, I have a smattering of other activities and events already noted on the calendar. Unfortunately these also include mundane things like an oil change, car inspection, a mammogram and the follow up with my bariatric center. This last one is next Tuesday before work, and I am eagerly awaiting the opportunity to review my blood work and talk shop with the doctor or RN about my hypoglycemia and other matters. Not exactly a fun date, but something to look towards, nonetheless. And, if I have time, I may see if they will release the blood work results to me sooner, maybe Friday, if I can arrange to go pick them up and they will allow for this. I need time to study how I did, so I can prepare my questions and what-not around this. I hope I didn’t “flunk!”

So, here you have an expose on how my brian works…and what I am doing to try and counteract the creeping blues from a grand summer now ending. Its pretty pathetic when doctor appointments start sounding enticing as an opportunity to remain busy and focused, however. I think I’ll have to come up with more recreational activities, gatherings and other fun stuff to fill the calendar with instead!!
