Weight: 196.1 lbs.
I saw a great show last night, and I’m gonna tell you about it. We went with Barb and Rick and Marlene to see our friend Pete’s annual barbershop show, this year called “Get Happy!” It was nice and inspirational and fun, and it was a wonderful evening all the way around. Although we are used to seeing Pete and Mike and others we know on stage, I am not sure that Mike’s little girls (depicted in my garage sale photo montage) have experienced this at an age where they could appreciate this as much, nor have Barb and Rick seen Pete in this way. It was fun to see how everyone liked it all so much, and the singing was fabulous.
Afterwards the five of us went to Max’s for a late bite, and I ordered chili. I ate only a little, but expect that the greasy and salty nature of this and the few chips I crunched that came with it, did my weight no favors. But, I did use some restraint, and the headache I had all night rather helped with this as I was feeling sort of migrainey and sick and not my usual hungry self. But, the company was so fun and the evening so nice otherwise, that this overrode any aches or complaints I may have had, and put the focus on company moreso than food, which is how I believe it should be anyway and is for more “normal” people all the time!
Earlier yesterday, Tom and I also met Rose and Joe and Kathy at a huge chinese auction, and also enjoyed their company immensely. While there, we also ran into a woman named Denise, and as she was there alone, we offered for her to join us, and also enjoyed her company when she did. I forgot where I even knew her from, but she reminded me that she was my friend Debbie’s old landlord, and we acted like old best friend’s thereafter. When Rose commented aloud on how good I looked having lost weight, Denise asked me if I had been dieting, and I felt compelled to out myself. In so doing, she shared that her sister is very obese and has been thinking about surgery, and this allowed for an intelligent conversation on the matter that hopefully she will convey to her sister. While I did nibble on some free table popcorn during the event, I talked to her about this as I saw her eyebrows raise, and it can be rather comical what people may otherwise think and assume surgery can and cannot do without this being explained. Sometimes even after all this time, I feel confused about things, so I can only imagine how others may have a hard time wrapping their heads around it all.
Anyway, I was no angel yesterday, but did bring my requisite cheese sticks (and ate them!) to try and prevent unbridled hunger or temptation, and other than the popcorn, did avoid the rest of the goodies available there and then later, at Max’s. We won a few baskets, and watched tickets for Joe and Kathy and Rose who all had to leave early, and will be happy to call them later today and tell them of the even better stuff they won! Joe in particular won one of the grand prizes, which is an autographed Sabres stick and book, signed by many of the members of the team. And Kathy won a wonderful wine basket complete with glasses.
And, as if yesterday wasn’t fun and exciting enough, in the early morning, despite my exhaustion and hormonal issues, Tom and I went to a few garage sales, including that of his friend from work. He and his wife had great stuff cheap, and I was able to get a bunch of things for bingo prizes for an adult day program that Barb is now the supervisor of. I have decided that this is my new garage sale mission, and enjoy the hunt and the opportunity to find things I feel others may appreciate, and that gives me an excuse to shop! As Paulette and others know, I am running out of need and space for things of my own…so what better way to keep the hunt and the adventure alive, than to seek things for others! I snagged a few nice purses, a game or two, a big joke book, some jewelry and other items I hope to think will make a disabled adult happy to win, and as long as there is a need, this will be my new plan. I already took all the items in good or new shape left from our own sale out for this purpose, and this helps divide the leftovers too, and make less that we have to cart over to the cat charity’s sale on Friday.
And, as if we didn’t play enough yesterday, Tom and I have decided to head to the casino today. Last night Pete, who lost his mother just months ago, sang a song/poem at the podium, about mothers, in honor of mother’s day. I expect that this may have been hard for him to do, but he did a lovely job. I snuck peeks at Tom and Rick, who have also lost mothers in the last 6 months, and feel sad for their losses too. Tom said that he is doing ok, but I know that he also has some sad and restless energy, and he has indicated that he would like to be out and distracted today. He visited the gravesite where his mother’s ashes will eventually rest earlier this week, and otherwise has no real way to honor her or focus his energies today. He is heading to church momentarily and I know that this will help him some, but having today’s outing to look forward to and focus on will also help.
As for me, I am up for the adventure, and can use another day of fun and rest, and do rather feel that we have earned it. We will try not to lose much of the hard earned garage sale money which we are saving to have Tom’s air conditioning fixed…but, at the moment, may be throwing some caution to the wind here, money and for me, probably diet wise. We do plan to spend the day, which includes eating there…so I will need to exercise due diligence in all regards, and like an alcoholic, try to remain sober in a bar. I am aware that this all sounds quite addictive and stupid, especially put this way…but then again, I never denied either!
Aw hell, what is life for if not to indulge and enjoy on occassion. That’s today’s philosophy, and almost yesterday’s show title, and that’s my story, and I’m stickin’ to it! You wanna join me??
Happy Mother’s Day to all who are one, and many hopes that you too have a fun, family and friend filled day!!
