Carbs and Other Matters

Weight: 223.5 lbs.

Well, I’ve finally have gotten to a new low weight, proving that eventually the scale does move, if even just a wee bit. I hope that it doesn’t move back UP tomorrow though, as tonight I ate a little too heartily at the casino buffet. I had: shrimp with cocktail sauce, 1/2 a broiled chicken breast, some sauteed broccoli, mushrooms and green beans, a few spoonfuls of smooshed sweet potato (that tasted like pumpkin pie filling!), a little of a Chinese beef dish (pepper beef, I think), some tomotoes vinigriette, and some chicken noodle soup. I need someone to explain the” etiquette” of soup post gastric bypass, to me, as I worry that broth along with hearty chicken chunks, acts like any liquid and washes out the nutrients. If this is so, I don’t understand how anyone can ever eat any soup WITH any meal….

How does this work?

As to playing there, we only came home with $75, which actually represents less than 50% odds, by my math. This is especially disappointing as we are quite broke from our weekend extravaganza, and could have stood to reimburse ourselves better than this!

Otherwise, today was a quiet and uneventful day. I did call my prospective job first thing this morning and left a nervous message for the woman who interviewed me inquiring about my status, but have not heard a thing back. This is sort of giving me a complex, and adding further to my uneasiness and “limboness.”

She is only in on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and I wonder if they are closed on Wednesday, leaving me to wait and wonder that much longer before I hear anything. I just hate not knowing, and may just begin to make plans to increase my hours as I am able, at my current job, rather than hold myself open much longer. This will definitely be my strategy for next week if I still haven’t heard anything….

In other news today, Tom and I ran numerous errands, including finally doing some major grocery shopping! There is an exclamation after this because it seems to be such a rare and dreaded occurence these days, and our “pantry” is often empty as a result. We stocked up on turkey products, cheeses, some veggies (raw and frozen), whole wheat bread, fruits including apples, bananas and grapes, and our staple, tuna. Nothing unique or exciting - but enough basics to hopefully last us a while and provide us simple, quick, decent meals. If there is cooking to be done, it’ll hafta wait til I buy possibly stew or casserole ingredients and actually make something out of them. Is anyone else out there as uniquely pathetic and anti-domestic as I?

Also today, I did work out as usual, and increased my time/distance on the treadmill by 1/2 a lap (whoopie!), and at least am remaining diligent about getting some movement in nearly every day. I do need to continue to increase this as time passes, and hope to naturally do this as time, energy and stamina permit.

After the workout and then later a lunch of leftover souvlaki from last night’s dinner out with Debbie, I entered into a strange exhausted, drooling, snoring on the couch period, almost as if I’d been drugged. It felt like the hypoglycemia I used to get when I ate too much or too carby - and I was rendered useless for at least an hour or two before Tom returned home from work and we headed out to the casino. I am guessing that I did eat too many carbs as there was some spanakopita in my souvlaki platter too, and I had a flavored creamer in the coffee I had had just before this. I guess…?

In any case, it is an awful feeling and one I have experienced only rarely since surgery, but knew so well beforehand. I think that this has happened a few times in the last few weeks, so I will have to pay attention to what my habits are just beforehand, as nothing is worth turning myself into a drooling blob. I do also wonder if I am somewhat sleep deprived too though, as I keep getting up quite early without reason (5:30 this morning and I didn’t even have to work!), and still have too much restless energy most days. IU tend to be like a maniac woman, and then crash. Maybe caffeine is also a culprit…?

If I weren’t such a weenie, i’d test my blood sugar level at such times. If Tom was home today, I would have let him do it for/to me…but I just can’t seem to muster up the courage to “stick” my own self. My needle phobia continues to be a factor, although I would have really loved to see my numbers at the moment of greatest meltiness, as I imagine them to have likely been very low. Maybe next time I can coordinate my episode with Tom’s availability - har har.

Well, speaking of disgusting medical procedures,  it’s nearly time for our favorite show (”House”) so  I’d better run.

I don’t mind gross things when other people are undergoing them, but keep away from me with those instruments!

What are you going to watch?!
