Hot Pictures!

Weight: 229.5 lbs.

Although I weighed myself again after a long bath, and I was down to 228.5. And then again after I had a satisfying bathroom encounter, and was up to 230?!

I know that it sounds strange that I weighed myself 3 times in one morning, but I did this purposely as I have wondered about my strange weight fluctuations, and have randomly noticed before that I seem to “hover” both up and down, sometimes in the same day if I happen to have weighed myself more than once. So, I have concluded that either my old digital scale is a little persnickity, or ones weight (well, mine, at least) must fluctuate from moment to moment, and not necessarily coorelate to factors one would assume make sense, like going UP after a bath, and DOWN after using the toilet. Whatever - and more than anyone probably cared to know!

In other exciting news, Tom and I are still struggling to get our rightful money back from the bank, and in fact while I was uploading the pics I am about to submit here, I was multi-tasking by talking at great length (again!) with an M&T representative who seemed equally appalled as I that things had not been remedied yet. If her indignity counts for anything, I trust that we will have our money back soon. She was quite convincing and persistent, so I really hope (once again, how dumb am I!?) that this time really will be the charm.

Well, here’s the pics I promised, starting with one of my roux-en-Y belly scar, now nearly 6 months post surgery. I am kind of surprised that it hasn’t faded as much  as some woman’s that I had had a chance to see when she was about this far out from her surgery, but then again, I haven’t applied any creams or anything to it. Belly Scar about 6 months post surgery

Also, here’s a pic of me actually fitting into new pajamas that I had purchased maybe a year or two ago, and had never fit into. They are (only?) a size X-large, which for me is great! Other than the fact that I need longer legs (see 2nd pic), they fit great now and are warm and cozy which thrills me all to pieces! And btw, only if you too have ever had a serious weight problem and couldn’t fit into newly purchased clothes, could you really appreciate the sentiment here.

Size X-lg pajamas that fit except for the length!                                                                                                                      I'm too short!

                                                                                                 I need to be stretched!

Next, here’s a picture of my favorite sitting position, although probably not recommended by an orthopedist or arthiritis doctor. In fact, I often have to remind myself to stop sitting like this, because ultimately I do believe that it contributes to my hip and knee pains and the chronic joint issues I tend to suffer from. Just the same, I have always sat this way from as far back as I can recall, except for times when I weighed so much, that I couldn’t anymore. Like all of last year!

                                                                                                My favorite position!

And, while we are looking at my unabashed beauty, you may as well be treated (once again) to my lovely face. Here’s a pic. of my now healing shingles or herpes or bubonic plague or whatever. I apply hydrocortisone cream to it 2x daily as instructed, but otherwise do nothing except hope that it will fade gracefully away and stop making me even more self conscious than I already am.   Shingles or whatever, on the mend

So, if when you read my title you were hoping for Ms. America or pics of a miraculously skinny version of my former self or better yet, something interesting and juicy…well, too bad!

  • I have sooooo many cloths I bought because “soon I’ll loose weight and fit into them!”. I’ve been doing this for years because I couldn’t bring myself to purchase cloths in the size I was actually wearing. I definalty look forward to finally taking the price tags off those cloths and wearing them! I can only hope they are still in style :p

  • Hi Chris,
Make sure that you hold on to all these things, because one day soon you too will be glad that you did. And what fun it is to shop in your own closet!
I am very excited for you and your upcoming journey, and wish you the very best!!!! BinB

  • SueZ

Hi b in b, I haven’t posted here for quite awhile but I still read you daily. Your scar is much less red than mine, and much smaller, too. I am only a bit over 3 months out so hopefully I will fade as much as yours in time.

I have screwed up my recovery…did it to myself. Last month I was feeling so much stronger and raring to “go” that I did some heavy duty gardening and then carried big watering cans around to fertilize my container plants. After sitting for a few months I was really ready to do “stuff”. Felt great at the time. Big mistake. I have pulled a muscle in my abdominal wall. Pulled? Feels more like ripped the bejesus out of it. Stab-you-in-the-stomach pain. So now I’m back to square one. No lifting, no doing, no nothing. It hurts worse than the day after surgery! And I did it to myself! Bummer.

    • Hi Sue,
I am very happy to hear from you and see that you are still out there, but sorry to hear about your mishap!!
Did you develop a hernia? What has the doctor said? Will you need to undergo anything to repair yourself?
      Gosh - it sounds awful!
How were you doing otherwise? Are you losing good? How are you eating? Are you happy with things otherwise?
Gosh - sorry to ask so much, but I am dying to know how you are faring! Please keep in touch, and good luck! BinB

Congrats!! X-Large is pretty darn good. You can go into the Misses department now and find lots of clothes. And of course you know small through x-large are cheaper then 2plus x’s. And sales are always greater in the normal sizes. Love the pics especially your face, I don’t know but for some reason it looks like you still have a blister how could this be called healing. Where is the scab? Oh well at some point in life it will be totally gone and a memory of the past. Love the sexy pj’s.

  • Hey Barb,
I didn’t say that everything I wear is X-lg! I think I am starting off with PJ’s, and will work my way to outer clothes.
It’s so odd how I am still wearing some of my pre-surgery clothes even, although they are baggy, of course. I can’t really say that I’ve totally outgrown much - things from all different sizes fit, and currently, I am wearing 3x sweats and a 3x shirt. Baggy and loose, but comfy and not too big to wear. How come some people lose a size every 15 or 20 lbs.? I wonder if being under 5′3″ has anything to do with anything.
    Whatever!
Hey, check out today’s post! I had “fun” redoing my resume, and remembering all the old jobs we worked together! Couldn’t remember what years I worked at KB rec. or with TBI tho., and may have “lied”. If you can set me straight, please do!
    Take care!! BinB
PS: I’d better not start working Monday evenings until AFTER the 26th!!

  • Barb F

I’d be surprised if your started already on the 26th. There is so much paperwork you have to go through now. But listen, if something happens and you have to work just let us know and we can always do it some other time. How many hours do you plan on working for them? Also, are you going to be working nights? I’m glad it seems to be working out for you and I hope you enjoy working for People Inc. (the ones who are taking over the world according to one person who works at the DDSO).

    • Hi Barb,
Gee, I sure hope that People Inc. won’t take over the world! At least not until I am already on board.

I have indicated that I am free evenings, Monday and Friday, as these are the times that I have either lost at Aspire, or am “free”. I know that they do need evening help, and on the phone, Patty said that Monday would probably be good too. We’ll hafta see what days and times we do end up coordinating. I don’t really want to work TOO many days/hours, I don’t think. I am getting really nervous about this, now.
You are probably right about Monday, and I certainly hope not to start that soon anyway. If I can find them, I do plan to bring a copy of my PPD and physical to the interview, as I expect that this is part of what they are likely to ask for anyway. The on-line application was VERY thorough, so I’m not sure how much other stuff they are likely to want besides tax forms and other final things.
I’ll definitely let you know! Do plan to keep the 26th as is though, so don’t worry! BinB

  • SueZ

Hi there binb, Other than pain in that pesky stomach muscle I am A-OK! No hernia, just a pulled/torn muscle. Time should repair it…lots and lots of time.

I’ve lost 65 pounds since the July 7th surgery, 80 since Jan! Am I excited, or what! Down to size 20 pants that are getting big, and x-lg tops. Even some 14/16’s. Gosh! Normal people clothes.

I can eat most things, but am careful about added sugar. Still working on upping protein, thinking that may help me heal faster.

I’ll keep reading, you keep blogging!
    Sue

    • Hi Sue,
Glad to hear that it is “only” a pulled muscle - but as you say, this too will take time to heal and hurts a lot. But, at least you don’t need surgery to repair it!
Hey, you are doing amazing!!! I can only dream of a size 20 still - I think I lose about one size every 50 lbs or so! You must look and feel amazing!
Have you had many problems with throwing up or dumping? What is your typical diet, if you don’t mind me asking. I hear so many people talk about eating foods from only a very narrow list, that I wonder if you, by saying that you can eat “most things”, are choosing from a wider variety of things. I am always so curious about this, and as you see when you read my posts, I am into “normalcy” with diet, rather than eliminating entire food groups or being overly regimented about every bite I take. I’d love to hear from others who are more “liberal” like me, yet are doing very well weight loss wise.
And, are you doing formal exercise (or WERE you, I should say!).
Well, sorry to be so nosy, but I am so curious and I expect that others who read here too, may wonder some of the same. Thanks, and take care of yourself! BinB

  • SueZ

Dear BinB, You aren’t nosy, we are sharing. I eat most things…not pie, cake, cookies and the like, but low carb variations from recipes I’m finding from different post surgery patients blogs. I eat a lot of salads now, and just this morning had an apple. And wine last night. I’ve been eating some interesting noodles made from tofu, Shirataki Noodles, that I really like, tho I suspect regular pasta would go down just fine. Haven’t tried rice yet, but have snuck in a few bites of fried potato…yum! Lots of fish, some steak, chicken is Ok, pork OK…really most stuff is just fine. I never feel like I can’t swallow or anything…but when I feel full…well, I’m FULL!

We’ve been eating out more often and try to make choices more based on amounts than anything else, or on sugar…I’m still a bit careful with that, but no dumping for, or gee, months!

I had been exercising on my tredmill, 1/2 hour a day, at about 2 1/2-3 miles an hour (watching mindless TV while doing so, otherwise I’d die of boredom). But with doctors orders to “take it easy!” I can indulge my natural laziness and just veg out in my recliner. He did say keep walking, but it hurts, whine, whine.

Except for this pesky pain I feel really good. I just bought a coat…a London Fog from Burlington Coat Factory in a size XL. No more plus sizes…I am ecstatic! It should get me thru the winter. Winter here means 45 degrees! Today it is sunny, breezy, palm trees are swaying, butterflies are all over the flowers, it’s 81 degrees!
    Love, SueZ

    • Alright SueZ,
I don’t know whether to be more jealous about your beautiful and warm weather, or the fact that you are fitting into such fine clothes!
I am very happy for you, and you sound as if you are feeling and doing great (other than the tear, of course!).
I am still wondering though, do you measure portions or count calories, or just let your stomach tell you when to stop? How much can you typically eat before registering as full?
Sometimes I think I can eat quite a bit, and other times, I can only get a few bites in.

Thank you for your answers, and take care! Binb

  • SueZ

Sometimes I can eat a whole cup, or more, of something, especially if the “something” is soft with lots of cooked vegetables. If a piece of some kind of protein, like chicken or fish, a piece as big as the palm of my hand is all I can stomach. Ha, stomach! That’s a good one!

Until recently I could tell immediately if I was full. Now I find awareness lagging a bite or two behind so I can get too full if I eat fast.

Advice…eat slowly. Put down your fork. If after a minute your tummy still says feed me, then go for it.

I don’t yet count calories. I feel if I concentrate on protein and eat slowly, it’ll all work out. But I’d bet I’m eating 1000-1200 calories most days. Some days less.

I’m still drinking protein drinks, most recently Click. mmmmm…caffein!
A typical days menu would be:
Big mug of herbal tea laced with Miralax.
cereal, fruit & yogurt or an egg or toast w/peanut butter.
Cup of Click in mid morning.
Lunch of leftovers or salad with chicken or fish.
midafternoon crystal light w/protein or protein chips.
Dinner=fish or chicken or turkey meatloaf, veggies, salad.
sometimes nuts for a snack if I’m hungry

  • Yum, you’re making me hungry! I think I eat somewhat comparably to you, altho. we do eat out sorta often, and those darn buffets…!
Have you managed a buffet? Today I think i ate more than I have since surgery in one sitting, and surprised even myself about how much I could hold. And no, I didn’t even get that hurty full feeling.
I ran out of time to publish exactly what I did cram in, but maybe will do this tomorrow. I think I may have set a bariatric record! Isn’t it wierd how some days you may get full so much faster than others?
Well - gotta run and get a second job now. Bye! BinB
