Amazing Grub, How Sweet the Taste...

Weight: 242 lbs.

Well, I lost a few pounds recently, and after tonight’s dinner I have probably already gained it back! Tonight was the Compeer picnic, which is an annual summer event whereby volunteers and their friends through this mental health friendship program are treated to a chicken barbeque, hot dog roast, and all the fixins’ amidst an atmosphere of cameraderie and fun. The Compeer staff take pains to make people feel comfortable and welcome, and it is a nice enviroment to meet other “matches,” catch up with old friends, and be pampered. And eat!

American Idle

Weight: 243.5 lbs.

I got up at 5 am this morning after getting to bed late last night, both for no good reasons really. The alarm had been set for 6 am, but I had to pee out the watermelon that I ate last night, so decided I may as well just stay up and get a head start on my day. This combined with the fact that I awoke at like 2 am the night before and took hours to fall back to sleep (just in time to get up for work!), has left me tired and cranky. I’ve never been one to do well on less than like 10 hours of sleep, so I tend to get miserable quickly if deprived for long. I am very weary as I write this, and just want to drool brainlessly in front of some bad sci-fi movie or crappy reality TV show, with a whole watermelon in my lap and a newspaper for during the commercials.

Urpee and Owie!

Weight: 244 lbs.

Tonight for dinner I ate a delicious portabella mushroom and garlic burger with tomato slices and mustard and a slice of cheese on a piece of whole wheat bread. Tom and I had experiemented and purchased a 10-pack of  fresh Veggie Patch “burgers” at BJ’s for $10.29, and they appealed to me as they are listed as only 150 calories each with 15 grams of protein. Although a little carby (10 grams), they seem healthier and less fattening even than the very low fat hamburger meat we had purchased the other day. Plus, they turned out to be tasty enough that even picky Tom liked them!

I Wonder as I Wander

Weight: 244.5 lbs.

Today I start work late, and then work into the evening. As I am worried that this will make my post awful late, I have decided not just to post before work instead, but also to put up some random questions that I often wonder about. I am curious as to whether others fill such precious brain space with such ridiculous musings and, if so, whether anyone has come to any conclusions about any of these questions.

So, here goes: Continue reading “I Wonder as I Wander”

I AM a Freakin' Moron!

Weight: 244.5 lbs.

What a dumb-head, idiot, dork-brain I am! Last night after I posted, I set about gathering my bloodwork orders and other materials to take with me to today’s blood draw at Quest. When searching for my precious two Valium to take with me, instead I found the scripts that the surgeon and my primary had written on 7/13 and 7/14/09 respectively. In a panic, Tom and I drove to the nearest Walgreen’s to see if they could be filled, only to find that they last for only 30 days and had literally just expired! After all I had gone through to get them! After all my angst about them! Even though I am one of the most meticulous and organized people I know. What a numb-nut! I have to wonder if some element of denial or sabotage was at hand at an unconscious level or something, as it is truly unthinkable that I dropped the ball on this. God, I am a freakin’ moron, and this time it has nothing to do with my diet!

Noodles and Needles

Weight: 245.5 lbs

For any southerners reading this, today in Buffalo, NY, it is the equivalent of 110 degrees out, your city. For us, so unused to heat as we are, it feels hotter than hell (to me, anyway).

This has sent Tom and me into the basement, where we have spent most of the day doing the laundry and cleaning and organizing loads of junk we have accumulated via garage sales and other such things. It seemed the best thing to do on a day like this, and it is actually freezing down there (again, in my opinion). I hope to have burned off some good calories lifting, moving, and carrying objects here and there, up and down. It’s about as close to formal “exercise” as I have done in an unfortunate while now.

The Tortoise and the Hare?

Weight: 246 lbs.

Whew — my weight came down and I feel better just knowing that I am not doomed to be 248 forever. Not that I really believed that I would … but anyone who has stalled knows what I mean.

Today Tom and I must have walked and sweated off another few pounds as we went to hours of garage and block sales. It is hotter than usual here in beautiful Buffalo, so I dripped my way from house to house and felt mushy and heat stroky by the end of the day. I was atypically the one begging Tom to let us stop, as I had completely wilted and couldn’t take it anymore. But, not before we bought our usually booty of good crap, including the hedge trimmer (electric) that Tom  had been hoping to find (Black & Decker — for $5!), a new bike helmet for $3, and a framed, big and beautiful Home Interiors picture for my office at work, for $3. Amongst many more things.

A Whale of a Tale

Weight: 248 lbs.

I’m not feeling very fun or funny today. In fact, I’m rather weary and grumpy, despite the fact that it is Friday and my work week has ended. I am rather lazy and unmotivated at the moment, for no real reason that I can think of, except perhaps related to “jet lag” from my recent junket along with the letdown associated with my weight stall and the end of my vacation(s) for some time to come.

A Mid-Summer Night's Dream

Weight: 248 lbs.

My weight is now perpetually higher than it was early last week, and I can’t seem to get unstuck despite returning to better eating since vacation ended. I guess that it will take longer before I drop back down. Last week was the first week that I gained since my surgery, and now this has to be subtracted from the week’s before losses by my math. Then again, exactly what did I expect!?

Losing Quick and Easy!

Weight: 248 lbs.

Unfortunately, I am talking about our money!

Although we had a wonderful time in Atlantic City, I lost lots (of money), and gained a little (weight). The opposite would have been much nicer, but this was the more likely scenario.

So, here’s the rundown. We ate, gambled, ate, ate, ate, gambled, walked, ate, walked, walked, ate, and gambled. The casinos frequented were Harrah’s, Bally’s, Claridge, Wild Wild West, Trump Taj Mahal, and the Borgata. We lost in all but the Borgata, where we still lost, but won some in between and got treated so well that it was hard to be upset. Plus, I won on the Penny Train feature at the last minute ($898!) just before it was time to go, so this felt like a winning day even though the reality is that over the span of the trip we still were losers.
