Sigh. Yesterday, I did get a call back from my primary doctor’s office, and this woman, different from the first, was also very nice. She said that Dr. “T” had written me an order for Valium after talking with my surgeon’s office about things. However, he was clear that he would do it only this once and in part because he also wrote an order for me to have my A1C (blood glucose level) tested. She said that he would not write again in the future unless I were to come in for an appointment, explaining that Valium is a controlled substance and he cannot just write to cover another doctor’s blood workup orders. Although this still leaves me in the same predicament, “controlled substance” sounds so much less harsh and accusatory than “narcotic” when spoken by the Bariatric staff, as did her tone. She was apologetic and understanding, and made “no” sound so much more palatable.
